Job Description:

Will collaborate with the Director of Nursing to plan, implement, evaluate and continuously improve educational programs and activities according to identified learning needs to promote individual development of nursing personnel and to facilitate patient care.

Participate in continued self-development by setting goals for continued growth.
Participate as an active member of nursing and FLCL committees as assigned.
Attend job related training / educational programs and / or review literature to remain aware of current nursing practices.
Base decisions and priorities on current literature, scientific principles, research evidence and hospital policies and procedures.
Attend and document all non-Healthstream general mandatory educational offerings.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with policies.
Maintain confidentiality of all information as appropriate.
Maintain competency in caring for the older adult.
Plan time on nursing units engaged in selective clinical practice to maintain current nursing skills.
Support the philosophy, objectives and mission of FLCL
DEPARTMENTAL:
Support and promote the philosophy of education at FLCL.
Attend monthly education meetings to discuss education activities.
Analyze and write annual report on staff development activities.
Review and revise education policy and procedure manual annually and as needed.
Maintain effective communication among all departments to foster positive relationships in the work environment.
Demonstrate knowledge of performance improvement process.
Ensure the maintenance of accurate records, including attendance, of all education offerings for a minimum of three years.
ORGANIZATIONS:
Maintain knowledge of FLCL policy and procedures, labor contracts, applicable governmental and regulatory agencies standards, rules, regulations, and codes; and ensure compliance.
Adhere to current FLCL and nursing department policies and procedures; assist in the preparation for such policies and procedures.
Participate in the annual budget preparation process for staff development.
Collaborate and consult with other specialty areas / departments as needed. Assist with educational preparation of programs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
STAFF EDUCATOR:
Use a variety of sources to identify learning needs of staff.
Plan and implement programs, either formal or informal, based upon adult teaching and learning principles.
Evaluate, by a variety of methods, staff development programs in order to ensure their effectiveness and cost efficiency.
Compile and analyze data from appropriate reports, records and tools that are designed to assess staff development effectiveness. Review and revise staff development activities as necessary.
Provide orientation programs, as needed in collaboration with management and personnel staff to fulfill participants’ requirements according to FLCL policy and procedures.
Assist staff to attain / maintain appropriate skill levels in their assigned areas.
Collaborate with nurse management staff, preceptor and / or designated individual, to assist nursing personnel in maintaining or improving competencies.
Conduct special projects as designated by the Director of Nursing.
Guide staff in preparing instructional materials for educational programs and help in the preparation as needed.
Plan and ensure that those programs specified by the accrediting and regulatory agencies (e.g. DOH, CMS-COPS, etc.) are provided to all staff annually, including the FLCL mandatory in-service programs.
Assists the nursing leadership team with on-call responsibilities and staffing shortages as needed.
Maintains competency of all facility medication carts & unit manager responsibilities.
Infection Preventionist
Responsible for management and practices of the infection prevention and control program, including mitigating infection diseases.

 

Qualifications:

Must possess a valid NYS Registered Nurse license. Preferred experience of 3 years or more in LTC/Rehabilitation. Must have completed, or willing to complete prior to start date, an Infection Preventionist specialized training certification. The organization can provide this course. BLS required.  Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Demonstrated critical thinking skills essential.

Salary commensurate with experience. $85k-95k
