Biography
Dr. John W. Gibbs is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon (ABOS). He is subspecialty fellowship-trained in orthopaedic sports medicine.
Dr. Gibbs earned his medical degree at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center. He continued with subspecialty training during an orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
He has been able to provided care for performers and athletes from many backgrounds, including professional musicians, dancers, and athletes from every level of participation. He was honored to provide care for the NFL Buffalo Bills, NHL Buffalo Sabres, and the NCAA Buffalo Bulls.
Dr. Gibbs thoroughly enjoys caring for patients from all backgrounds and general orthopaedic conditions. He has found it quite rewarding to return musicians and dancers to the stage, players to the game, workers to employment, and every day people to every day tasks.
He is an active member as a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North American (AANA), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons (NYSSOS). With this, Dr. Gibbs obtains, studies, and utilizes current and progressive information to incorporate into the care of his patients.
Dr. Gibbs was honored and blessed with caring for his hometown community in Rochester, New York for over 15 years. His philosophy is based in the osteopathic tradition of the body, mind, and spirit approach. He prides providing care with honesty and integrity. He provides high-level quality care for patients as if they are friends and family.
Dr. Gibbs specializes in arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee, and sports surgery. He has a special interest in progressive treatment of the shoulder, including rotator cuff problems and instability. He also provides care for general orthopaedic conditions; basic orthopaedic trauma; bony, tendon, and ligament injuries; hand, wrist and elbow conditions; and ankle conditions. He also provides care for work-related problems.
Dr. Gibbs resides in the Rochester area with his wife Michelle and their four children.
