In 1974, a young John Moschetti walked through the doors of Auburn Community Hospital for the very first time. Back then, X-rays were developed on film, charts were handwritten, and messages traveled by paper, not pixels. Half a century later, Moschetti continues to serve as an essential member of the imaging department, managing digital X-rays in his role as Radiology File Clerk.
“It was all X-ray films of various sizes. We packaged hard copies for patients or doctors to physically pick up. A lot has changed, for the better, in 50 years,” said Moschetti, who was honored alongside 82 fellow employees at the hospital’s recent Employee Awards and Recognition Ceremony, held at the Springside Inn in Auburn.
After a heartfelt moment for speeches by fellow staff members honoring him, Moschetti received a standing ovation from everyone in attendance in recognition of his five decades of dedicated service.
“It’s a great feeling to help people heal. That’s what we do. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that,” added Moschetti, who brought his mother to the awards ceremony held at The Springside Inn.
“This speaks to the dedication, loyalty, and the quality of talent at Auburn Community Hospital. The men and women here exemplify what Auburn Community Hospital is all about. They are the true heroes saving lives day in and day out,” said Auburn Community Hospital President and CEO Scott Berlucchi.
“We meet the needs of the community and serve patients so well because of the hard work of our dedicated employees,” said Auburn Community Hospital Board of Trustees Chairman Anthony D. Franceschelli.
A total of 83 Auburn Community Hospital employees with a combined 1,340 years of service were honored, starting with five years of service, all the way up to Mr. Moschetti with five decades of service.
In addition to that recognition, three exceptional nurses were recognized with the “DAISY Award” for extraordinary compassion and care, which was founded internationally in 1999 through the DAISY Foundation.
It was created by the family of J.Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications due to an autoimmune disease. His family initiated the awards in his memory to honor the nurses who provided exemplary care during Barnes’ eight-week hospitalization.
The DAISY Award is given to nurses across America, and the three winners chosen at Auburn Community Hospital were Alicyn Salato, RN (Critical Care), Karissa Howard, RN (Emergency Care Unit), and Beth O’Hara, RN (Pain Management).
