Auburn, NY — March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. In an effort to provide more access and easier screenings for colorectal cancers and other gastrointestinal issues, Auburn Community Hospital is pleased to announce a new Direct Access Colonoscopy program. The American Medical Association (AMA) recommends that average-risk adults begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45.
This program is designed to streamline patient care for easier access to preventative and potentially therapeutic screening and surveillance colonoscopies. Primary care providers are able to directly schedule their patient’s colonoscopy procedure without needing additional clinic visits or significant testing for low to average risk anesthesia patients.
Patients who are at elevated anesthesia risk will undergo appropriate testing and medical clearances to ensure safe sedation and procedures.
“Colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in Cayuga County. This new service will not only remove barriers to life-saving tests and preventative care, it will also open needed access to our clinics for patients with pathologic processes requiring provider care,” said Dr. Jonathan Huang, Chief of Auburn Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
Providers may call Auburn Gastroenterology & Hepatology at 315.253.5151 or visit auburnhospital.org/practice/auburn-gastroenterology for more information.
Auburn Community Hospital remains committed to providing high-quality, low-cost services to our community, right here at home.
