Ronald L. Kirshner, MD, Chair and Medical Director
Dr. Kirshner is a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon who comes to the Auburn Heart Institute from Rochester Regional Health Sands‐Constellation Heart Institute where he served as the Chief of Cardiac Services and Cardiothoracic (heart) Surgery for over 30 years. Dr. Kirshner is a graduate of Temple University Medical School and completed his internship and residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He has also completed fellowships in Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He has been practicing as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Rochester General Hospital since 1985. He is board certified in Cardiac and Thoracic surgery. Dr. Kirshner’s clinical interests and expertise include Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and creating systems to drive healthcare efficiency and quality.

Praveena Paruchuri, MD
Dr. Praveena Paruchuri is a cardiology specialist with 17 years of experience. She comes to Auburn Cardiology from St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York. Dr. Paruchuri has also practiced in a number of the largest cardiology departments in New York City hospitals including NYU Long Island Hospital, as the Director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease.
Dr. Paruchuri attended Saint George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies and completed her residency program at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. Additionally, she completed her General Cardiology Fellowship at Winthrop University. She is board certified in cardiovascular disease, Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Paruchuri is skilled in assessing conditions ranging from routine to complex adult congenital heart disease and devising treatments in line with the latest research and treatment protocols. Proficient in multi-modality cardiac imaging including structural TEE, cardiac CTs, echocardiograms, and nuclear stress testing. Dr. Paruchuri is known for building excellent rapport with patients and colleagues to facilitate effective clinical care and has a passion for caring for women’s cardiology issues.

Mukesh K. Sharma, MD
Dr. Mukesh Sharma an accomplished Cardiologist has rejoined Auburn Community Hospital where he practiced from 2003-2012. Dr. Sharma spent the last seven years in Fayetteville, North Carolina as a cardiologist at the VA Medical Center and was also teaching medical students at Campbell University in North Carolina.
Dr. Sharma is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Nuclear Cardiology. Sharma did his internship in Internal Medicine at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and his residency at Jamaica Hospital an affiliate of Cornell University. In addition, Dr. Sharma received his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Dr. Doria A. Scortichini MD, FACC, Cardiology Specialist
Dr. Doria Scortichini is a cardiology specialist with over 40 years of experience in cardiovascular diseases. She is recognized across the Finger Lakes and Greater Rochester region as one of the most respected and accomplished cardiologists.
Dr. Scortichini graduated from Albany Medical College of Union University and completed her residency and cardiology fellowship at Bronx Municipal Hospital and Albert Einstein College of Medicine Hospital followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Montreal Heart Institute. Dr. Scortichini is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Dr. Scortichini is excited to be part of Auburn Heart Institute as it grows into a first-class comprehensive cardiology center.

Dr. Courtney Maxey-Jones, MD, Critical Care Specialist
Dr. Courtney Maxey-Jones, MD is a critical care specialist and Auburn Heart Institute medical consultant assisting with the establishment of the Cardiac Advanced Care Unit (CACU).
Dr. Maxey-Jones, a practicing cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist, will focus on developing the Cardiac Advanced Care Unit (CACU) according to national standards and practice guidelines. She will also prepare for the establishment of the interventional cardiology program and a cardiac surgical program to meet the needs of future patients.
Dr. Maxey-Jones studied at New York University School of Medicine and completed her Residency Program in Anesthesia at Massachusetts General Hospital and attained a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Maxey-Jones is board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Maxey-Jones has been practicing at a number of Central New York hospitals including Wilson Hospital as a consultant for their Cardiovascular Service Line, Oswego Hospital, American Anesthesiology of Syracuse working as a Cardiac Anesthesiologist and Intensivist, and St. Joseph’s Health as the Medical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support / ECMO.
She is a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Extracorporeal Life Support Organization,
New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, The Society of Critical Care Medicine, The Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, The American Society of Anesthesiologists, and The American Medical Association.

Our Cardiovascular Laboratory is equipped to perform a variety of diagnostic procedures for patients with known or suspected cardiac disorders. From cardiac studies and echocardiography to stress echocardiography and electrocardiography, our skilled team of board-certified cardiologists, echocardiographers, and registered nurses work together to deliver accurate diagnoses and valuable insights for treatment planning.
We utilize advanced technologies to obtain critical diagnostic information for precise and efficient care. Our facility is equipped with ultrasound imaging for detailed visualization of the heart and related vascular structures. We commonly use electronic processing of electrical impulses from the heart and brain through EEG and EKG, which provides valuable data for diagnosing cardiac conditions. We also have the capabilities to perform nuclear stress tests using nuclear isotopes to help evaluate the effects of a heart attack and other cardiac conditions.
