    Dr. Mukesh Sharma an accomplished Cardiologist has rejoined Auburn Community Hospital where he practiced from 2003-2012. Dr. Sharma spent the last seven years in Fayetteville, North Carolina as a cardiologist at the VA Medical Center and was also teaching medical students at Campbell University in North Carolina.

    Dr. Sharma is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Nuclear Cardiology. Sharma did his internship in Internal Medicine at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and his residency at Jamaica Hospital an affiliate of Cornell University. In addition, Dr. Sharma received his Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

    Dr. Jay Varanasi was born and raised in New York State. After completing his undergraduate studies in Boston, he earned his medical degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. He then pursued training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC. Following this, Dr. Varanasi completed a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology in Massachusetts, further honing his expertise in advanced cardiac care.

    Dr. Varanasi began his interventional cardiology practice in Greensboro, NC, in 2006, where he served for 18 years in a well-established cardiology program. During this time, he gained extensive experience and took great pride in delivering high-quality cardiovascular care to his patients.

    In 2024, Dr. Varanasi returned to New York to help establish a cardiac catheterization program in Auburn. This opportunity allows him to bring his skill set to a community where such specialized services were previously unavailable. By expanding cardiac services, Dr. Varanasi aims to ensure that patients in Auburn and the surrounding areas can access exceptional cardiac care locally, contributing to the improved health and well-being of the community.

    Edinrin Obasare, MD

    Dr. Edinrin Obasare has been fascinated by the study of living organisms ever since he took biology classes in high school. Born in England and raised in Jamaica, Dr. Obasare graduated from the University of the West Indies Medical School, he graduated from SUNY Downstate here in New York, and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Albert Einstein Medical Center, followed by a second fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology (treating heart rhythm disorders) at Yale University School of Medicine. He is board certified in cardiac electrophysiology, general cardiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, hypertension, and internal medicine. Yet through it all, apart from his interest in the science of medicine, he became even more attracted to the art of medicine.

    Dr. Obasare, returned to New York to join the Auburn Heart and Vascular Institute in summer 2024. Throughout his career he has performed over 1 thousand cardiac electrophysiology procedures including hundreds of device procedures (pacemakers, biventricular devices, defibrillators, device extractions, and left atrial appendage closure devices). He has also performed hundreds of arrhythmia ablation electrophysiology procedures for heart rhythm disorders such as supraventricular tachycardia (fast heart rates from the top of the heart), and atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythms from the top of the heart that can cause blood clots and strokes). On a personal note, he enjoys spending time with friends and family and enjoys playing music.

    Dr. Obasare prides himself in delivering highly specialized top notch cardiac health care to his patients. He values his patients and believes that complete attention to every aspect of their health is paramount. He joins his colleagues here at the Auburn Heart and Vascular Institute in providing access and delivering this excellent care locally and regionally, in our beautiful community.

    Christopher Scibelli, MD

    Dr. Christopher Scibelli is a board-certified vascular and general surgeon with a distinguished career spanning both military and civilian medicine. He earned his B.A. in Biology cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College and went on to receive his M.D. from Temple University School of Medicine, supported by a Navy Health Professions Scholarship. He completed a transitional internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and served as a Battalion Surgeon with the U.S. Marine Corps before completing his general surgery residency and chief residency at Christiana Care Health Services. He then pursued advanced training with a fellowship in vascular surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Vascular and Transplant Specialists, P.C.

    Dr. Scibelli’s professional experience includes over two decades of practice in both academic and clinical settings, including service as a staff vascular surgeon at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and as an associate professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He has held various leadership roles, such as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and Medical Director of multiple vascular labs. He also deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and has been actively involved in clinical teaching and mentoring.

    In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Scibelli has contributed significantly to the field through scholarly activity, presenting and publishing on topics such as endovascular procedures, critical limb ischemia, and complex venous disease. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound. His professional interests focus on chronic limb-threatening ischemia, cerebrovascular disease, and complex venous conditions, and his dedication extends to improving patient care, education, and vascular surgery practice.

      Our Cardiovascular Laboratory is equipped to perform a variety of diagnostic procedures for patients with known or suspected cardiac disorders. From cardiac studies and echocardiography to stress echocardiography and electrocardiography, our skilled team of board-certified cardiologists, echocardiographers, and registered nurses work together to deliver accurate diagnoses and valuable insights for treatment planning.

      • Ultrasound Imaging (Echocardiography)
        Provides detailed visualization of the heart and surrounding vascular structures.

      • Electrocardiogram (EKG/ECG)
        Measures the heart’s electrical activity to help detect arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other conditions.

      • Nuclear Stress Testing
        Uses safe nuclear isotopes to evaluate blood flow to the heart, assess damage from a heart attack, and detect other cardiac issues under stress conditions.

      Electrophysiology Services

      The Electrophysiology (EP) team at Auburn Heart & Vascular Institute specializes in diagnosing and treating abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) using both advanced and minimally invasive procedures. Our board-certified electrophysiologists provide expert care for conditions such as atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, and other complex arrhythmias.

      We use cutting-edge diagnostic tools, including 3D heart mapping technology, to visualize the heart’s electrical pathways in real time and guide precise, targeted treatments to improve the heart’s function.

      Our Electrophysiology Services Include:

      • Pacemaker Implantation
        Regulates slow heart rhythms (bradycardia) and supports normal heart function.

      • Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs)
        Treats life-threatening fast heart rhythms by delivering a corrective shock when needed.

      • Catheter Ablation
        Minimally invasive procedure used to treat arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation by targeting the source of irregular electrical signals in the heart.

      • Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC)
        A non-surgical alternative to long-term blood thinners for patients with atrial fibrillation, designed to reduce stroke risk by sealing off the area of the heart where clots are most likely to form.
