Dr. Deborah Geer has dedicated her professional life to serving people. For more than 25 years she’s been a physician and a surgeon. Dr. Geer does all general surgery with a special passion for treating women with breast disease. In addition to her medical background she has a master’s degree in Practical Theology and is an ordained chaplain, a certified music therapist, a former clinical instructor for two medical schools and a missionary.
Dr. Geer completed medical school at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. She completed her internship, residency and was Chief Resident in general surgery at the Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI. She is a Board Certified surgeon. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Medical Society, New York State Medical Society, Cayuga County Medical Society and Christian Medical and Dental Society.
She was ordained as a Chaplain from the United Brethren Church of Christ in 2003. Dr. Geer completed her master’s degree in Practical Theology in 2001 from Regent University School of Divinity in Virginia Beach, VA. She is a member of the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Dr. Geer received her certification as a Music Practitioner through the Music in Transition and Healing Program in 2001. She is a member of the Music in Healing and Transition Society; American Harp Society and National Flute Society.
From 1993 – 1997, Dr. Geer was the Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wright State University, Dayton, OH; and from 1986 – 1995 the Clinical Instructor in Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Geer’s missionary work includes working in the rural health clinics in the Lachorrera District with the Lietaub En Christo Church in Panama (2006); as part of the surgical team at the Black Rock Hospital in Jamaica with Medical Ministry International (2002); the only surgeon at the Kudjip Hospital in New Guinea while with the World Medical Mission (1999); as a general surgeon at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya while with the World Medical Mission (1997) and participated in the maiden voyage of the Flying Hospital as a general surgeon as part of Operation Blessing from El Salvador (1996).
She grew up in Caledonia (outside Rochester) and in now in Auburn to be closer to her extended family. Her husband, Skip, manages the practice and they have two grown children, Greg and Erica, that are both students at the University of Rochester.
She is presently a general surgeon with Auburn Memorial Hospital in Auburn, NY. Her practice is located at 143 North Street in Auburn. Her office number is 315-253-4536.
