What is the most important information I should know about calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?

Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.

What is calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?

Calcium and magnesium are naturally occurring minerals that are necessary for many systems in the body. Calcium and magnesium are sometimes used as antacids to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach.

Simethicone allows gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines to come together more easily, which allows for easier passage of gas.

Calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone is a combination antacid, anti-gas medicine used to treat heartburn, indigestion, gas and bloating, or stomach discomfort caused by overeating.

Calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to use this medicine if you have other medical conditions, especially:

  • kidney disease; or
  • a condition for which you need to limit your intake of magnesium.

It is not known whether calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone will harm an unborn baby. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant.

It is not known whether calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are breast-feeding a baby.

What should I avoid while taking calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone?
