Auburn, NY - Auburn Community Hospital’s President/CEO Scott Berlucchi has announced the reaccreditation of the hospital by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is a prestigious, independent, not-for-profit organization who certifies more than 4,000 Healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. Berlucchi notes that “this accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. These standards are developed with input from health care professionals, providers, subject matter experts, consumers, government agencies (including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) and employers. They are formed by scientific literature, expert consensus and approved by the Board of Commissioners.”
The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Based in a Chicago suburb, Joint Commission staff work rigorously on improving health care for the public by evaluating health care organizations, assisting and directing them to strive at providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. Their overall objectives are the continuing expansion and coordination of nationally standardized core measurement capabilities and increasing the use of clinically significant data for quality improvement, benchmarking, accountability, decision-making, accreditation and research.
ACH's Chief Medical Officer, John A. Riccio, MD noted that the hospital has received the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval as a result of the recent rigorous, unannounced survey.
As part of The Joint Commission process, a physician, a nursing executive and a facilities expert surveyed Auburn Community Hospital for three full days. Policies and procedures were reviewed in addition to conversations with front-line staff members and physicians who are responsible for the day-to-day care of our patients. The survey report complimented Auburn Community Hospital for the significant strides that have been made in quality improvement and patient safety. In addition to the performance of the survey, The Joint Commission serves as a resource for many of the best practices in health care.
Ann E Doran, Vice President for Quality Management at Auburn Community Hospital, states: “The tremendous success that the hospital earned on the 2017 The Joint Commission reaccreditation came as no surprise to the Leadership at Auburn Community Hospital. Patient safety, quality of care, and staff and physician engagement are at the forefront of what we do at Auburn Community Hospital.”Back to Article List
