Auburn Hospital Announces Complete Match of $4.4 Million HEAL Grant

Auburn Hospital System Foundation, Inc., the fundraising arm of Auburn Memorial Hospital, has approved the transfer of $200,000 to the Hospital to complete the match of the $4.4 million HEAL II grant from New York State, which was awarded in December 2006.

“The Hospital Foundation was able to generate these funds from its ongoing fund-raising events, generous contributions from members of our community, and earnings from the Foundation’s investments,” stated Stephen L. Zabriskie, Foundation President. “The completion of this match, together with the outstanding commitment of our local foundations, ensures that AMH will be entitled to the full participation of the state to the extent of $4.4 million dollars to provide the highest quality care to our community.”

The HEAL (Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law) Phase II grant was awarded for the following projects:

  • Reconfiguration and modernization of the Hospital’s Memorial Wing – private rooms with patient and family amenities
  • Two new and two expanded operating rooms with state-of-the-art surgical technology
  • Relocation of the Hospital’s psychiatric unit from offsite to a new, in-hospital unit
  • Upgrade of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems

The state required that the grant be fully matched for a total of $8.8 million, the full cost of the projects. Previously it was announced that $4.2 million had been committed, as follows: $2 million from Auburn Hospital System Foundation; $1 million from The Allyn Foundation; $800,000 from the Fred L. Emerson Foundation; $250,000 from the Stanley W. Metcalf Foundation; $100,000 from the D.E. French Foundation; and $50,000 from the Columbian Foundation.

Construction will begin in February, 2008 and will be completed by the end of the year.
