Scott A. Berlucchi, FACHE, NHA
President/Chief Executive Officer
Scott Berlucchi, FACHE, NHA, is a visionary leader that is an expert in managing rural hospitals and leading turnaround situations. He has a proven record of achievement in health care systems integration, hospital operations, physician management, program development, strategic planning and financial management. He brings to the table nearly 20 years as a President/CEO of health care facilities.
As President/CEO of Auburn Memorial Hospital since January 2007, Berlucchi has led the hospital out of its most turbulent time and into prosperity. He inherited a hospital that was bankrupt, with subpar services, a crumbling infrastructure and a depleted medical staff.
In a year’s time his leadership brought the hospital out of bankruptcy; overturned a Berger Commission recommendation to stop the hospital’s OB/GYN services; hired a multitude of doctors in service areas pertinent to the community; hired a Chief Medical Officer that is also Board Certified in Quality Assurance and Utilization Review of Physicians; oversaw an $8.8 million renovation that brought state-of-the-art operating rooms to a community hospital, completely rebuilt the inpatient behavioral health unit, revamped the HVAC system, redesigned a 24-bed medical/surgical unit to ensure individual rooms for each patient and brought the hospital from financial ruin to prosperity leading some of the largest financial gains the hospital has ever seen.
In an event to continue to move the hospital forward, Berlucchi has focused the Board of Trustees to think of the future. In summer 2009, Berlucchi unveiled the hospital’s five year strategic plan. The plan is build on four pillars: quality care and patient safety; medical staff development; service growth areas; fiscal health of the hospital. He has also outlined nine core service areas: primary care & general medicine; urgent/emergent care; cardiology and pulmonary; surgery; behavioral health; woman and maternal health; oncology; geriatrics/long term care; neurosciences.
“We are a 99-bed community hospital in a rural portion of Upstate New York,” said Berlucchi. “We have our finger on the pulse of the community and focused on providing services that the present population needs and planning on the future to continue to provide our community members with big-city health care in our rural community.”
